📝 Boobrie — From Scottish Noir to AI Pop Star
Introduction
If you ever spot a mythical Scottish bird making a cameo in a Scottish detective series (based on Danish book), pay attention. I was watching Dept. Q on Netflix — grim faces, rain, bleak vistas — when, out of nowhere, a fishing boat’s name in episode 3 blindsided me: Boobrie. A mythical Scottish bird that serves as the namesake for Jamie Lingard's boat, "Boobrie II".
Most viewers? No idea. Me? Suddenly, Boobrie was living rent-free in my mind. It started as a weird word, became a private meme, and (with a little help from AI) ended up a full-blown multimedia incident.
Boobrie: The Word That Wouldn’t Leave
You know how some words burrow in and pop up at odd times? Boobrie wouldn’t let go. The problem was that it didn't behave well: floated on the surface of my brain, popped up unexpectedly, and made me giggle in inappropriate situations. Unfortunately, nobody asked me about any boobries at all. I thought about casually deploying it in small talk like:
- “Don’t be such a boobrie.”
- Or, “Office coffee tastes like ol’ Boobrie feather.”
- And the classic (as my made-up Scottish granda might say):
“Never chase a trout with a boobrie in your boat.”
Enter the AI Art Brigade
Out of curiosity (or self-defense), I tried to find a real Boobrie. Wikipedia says it’s a mythical Scottish water bird — basically a cryptid with an attitude problem. But I wanted to see it.
So, I asked Sora to draw a boobrie. Gemini, too. Midjourney? Sure, why not.
Results:
Sora produced an emo heron who just got ghosted by a selkie and looks like it got yelled at on a beach for stealing chips and emotionally recovers.
Gemini attempted a duck, but with the dead eyes of a lost insurance salesman.
Midjourney finally understood me and gave a good one.
From Bird to Band: The N-Heads Saga
Still amused, I plugged “boobrie” into Suno as a prompt for a song with boat, trout, tragic romance, Spanish language and Cumbia vibe. I got a surprisingly catchy Latino pop track.
Could I stop there? Of course not.
Midjourney visuals: boobrie video, fake vocalist video, dancers
Gemini: eerie Latino dancing woman in the lake, more dance episodes
Kling for concept/choreo, lipsync.
CapCut for editing and composing music video
A fake AI band name, N-Heads, hinting at AI transformers attention heads
Before I knew it, I’d made a full-on music video, starring a digital singer with more charisma than some Eurovision acts.
[Verse] Saw her wings They sliced the moon Plumas negras Doom’s cartoon She’s a mirage in a smoky room Her eyes Two fires Burning slow Tequila dreams They overflow I chase her shadow But it won’t show [Prechorus] She laughs like thunder Cracks the air El cielo cries No fair No fair [Chorus] You never catch a trout when the Boobrie’s in your boat No puedes bailar si te pisa el talón She’s the tide that drags you out Yeah She’ll sink you just for fun Bobbing con Boobrie Boy You’re done [Verse 2] She whispers riddles Slippery fish “¿Quieres volar o ser mi dish?” Every word A poisoned wish The dance floor melts beneath her claws Cumbia rhythm Breaking laws I’m just a puppet in her jaws
Boobrie, Immortal
So what did I learn?
Netflix will teach you new vocabulary, whether you want it or not.
AI will always try to help… but sometimes “help” means sending you a duck with trust issues.
The line between inspiration and compulsion is blurry, and Boobrie is now a permanent resident.
Gallery: How AI Thinks Boobrie Looks
A cinematic wide-angle shot of a misty mountain lake during early morning. A small wooden fishing boat floats on calm, reflective water. In the boat, a man with a fishing rod leans over, looking into the lake. At the back of the boat sits a large, black mythical bird (boobrie) with shiny feathers and glowing eyes. The bird is still, watching the man. Moody lighting. Foggy atmosphere. High realism, cinematic film style, 8K, shallow depth of field, natural color grading.

Proof that inspiration comes from the strangest places — especially when Netflix and AI are involved.
